Number of Bolts: 17 PML's extra capacity transmission pan for fits Ford C6 transmissions which are found on 1960's and 1970's full size cars and pre-1988 Ford vans, motor homes, suvs, and trucks. For example, the C6 transmission is commonly found on:
This PML pan design features steps for vehicles with cross members or other clearance issues. The extra capacity comes from the deep sump in the middle of the pan. Please check your vehicle carefully using the dimensions above for clearance and to verify the transmission installed on your truck or SUV. PML Ford C6 Pans Compared to StockPML also makes a low profile C6 transmission pan for applications that cannot accommodate a deeper pan. This low profile pan is intended for the Ford 1960's and 1970's full size cars with the C6 transmission.

Gaskets and Filters for PML C6 Pan

This picture shows the inside of the PML pan. PML designed this pan to work with stock gaskets and filters. Filter supports are not needed as the filter bolts on to the valve body. The fluid level is at the same place with a PML pan or a stock pan so an extension is not needed. |

This shows two possible filter kits for Ford C6 transmissions. They both include a rubber-cork type gasket, which we recommended for use with a PML transmission pan. These are from Fram and have part numbers FT1025 and FT1037 (longer pick-up spout show on right). Click on images at left to open larger. |

A customer with a 1987 F250 purchased the the FT 1055a C6 filter, which he used with his stock pan. This filter has a pick up tube connected to the filter with a gasket. Although the gasket holds the tube in place, the tube probably rested on the bottom of the stock pan. The PML pan is NOT designed to support a pick up tube. If the tube should fall out of the main part of the filter, severe damage could result. PML Transmission Pan Features

Volume: 3 quarts over stock Dimensions: Click here for dimensions. Number of Bolts: 21 This heavy duty, extra capacity PML transmission pan fits the Ford 6R80 transmission. PML designed this 6R80 pan for:
Some vehicles with the Ford 6R80 transmission are:
Some Ford Explorer and Explorer Sport Trac SUVs with the 4.6L V8 from 2006 to 2010 have the similar 6R60 transmission and this pan has been successfully installed on several of these. Other vehicles with the 6R60 may also be able to use this pan. Explorer owners should plan on temporarily removing the cross member.. On the Ford Explorer, the pan is a very close fit and two bolts are difficult to access because of the cross member and the transmission cooler lines. Many customers have temporarily removed the cross member to gain access. A ball head t handle hex wrench might also work. See installations below. Configurations vary so please check if this pan will work for you being ordering. To find out if this pan will fit your vehicle, make sure you have the 6 speed 6R80 transmission. Look at your stock pan and see if it is the same shape and number of bolts. Then look for clearance for a larger pan. See if your vehicle has anything like frame cross members or exhaust that would be in the way of a larger pan. PML 6R80 Pan Compared to Stock
This image shows the inside of the stock and PML pan and the Ford 6R80 transmission with filter. The pickup of the filter sits in the deep area of the stock pan. The deepest part of the PML pan is the same as the deep part of the stock pan so fluid pick up is at the same level with a PML pan or the stock pan. The fluid level is at the same place also. |

Filter and Gasket Information for PML 6R80 Transmission PanPML design this pan to work with the stock filter and gasket. Filter supports on the bottom of the pan keep the filter in place (see above picture with stock pan and transmission). This eliminates the need for an extension and keeps the filter from wobbling around in a larger pan. A customer provided possible filter part numbers:
For the gasket, a composite or flexible rubber cork gasket will work well with a PML pan. Hard rubber gaskets with ribs can be easily damaged and leak or keep the bolts from tightening. Some folks like to use RTV but you have to be very careful not to get any inside the pan The stock aluminum gasket with rubber trim can be used if it is clean and free of nicks. Drain for PML 6R80 Transmission PanPML placed the drain hole on the driver's side, near the rear of the vehicle. See Installations below for a picture. A magnetic drain plug is included with the pan and all the mounting bolts. The side location is safer since there is less chance for damage than on the bottom. There is still easy access for maintenance. Installations2013 F–150 with PML Transmission PanSteve installed this PML 6R80 pan on his 2013 F–150 V8 XLT. The installation was a simple bolt-on process. Even thought this is a deep pan, the exhaust and frame are still much closer to the ground than the pan so there are not any clearance issues. Our thanks to Steve for installing our pan.

Watch a video of the installation of this pan on a F–150. Video is about 4 minutes long. The PML YouTube Channel also has a video showing the replacement of the rear differential cover. Also more photos of this installation are in our Facebook album. You do not need to join Facebook to view. |

Steve also installed a PML differential cover on his F–150. He used PML part number 7092 (click on link for information and images). 2010 Sport Trac with PML Transmission PanMike installed this PML 6R80 transmission pan on his 2010 Sport Trac. The clearance on the driver's side front cross member is very close (about ¼ inch) and accessing some of the bolts was difficult. He found a ball head t handle hex wrench was a big help. Another customer temporarily removed the frame cross member to get the pan installed. Mike wrote up his installation on the Explorer forum: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391071.
2011 F–150 with PML Transmission PanChris installed the PML transmission pan for the Ford 6R80 on his 2011 F150 5.0L 4x4 truck. Chris reported that the pan fits well without any clearance issues. He used the OE pan gasket. Our thanks to Chris for his feedback and pictures.
2007 Explorer Sport Trac with PML Transmission PanThese images show the installation of this PML 6R80 deep pan on a 2007 Explorer Sport Trac with the 4.6 V8 engine. Jeff, the owner of the Sport Trac, painted a cast finish PML pan black before he installed the pan. Jeff took some notes of his installation. He found the transmission cooler lines run close to front cross member so he could not access three of the front pan bolts. He ended up removing the cross member to remove the stock pan and replace it with a PML pan. This doesn't sound like a big issue unless your vehicle (like his) resides in the rust belt and "it didn't want to come out that easy." Jeff reported the fit is tight but clearances were good all around. Many thanks to Jeff for this pictures and comments.
2013 Mazda BT50 with PML Transmission PanJohn from Australia installed this PML transmission pan on his 2013 Mazda BT50 with the 5 cylinder 3.2 LT Puma motor. The BT50 trucks are similar to the Ford Ranger T6/PX and to the F150 in the US. The installation went well. The only issue was the selector cable bracket has to be partially removed to allow the pan to go up. It is also in the way of any subsequent draining but careful use of a disk grinder might solve that. It took 9.2 quarts to refill. Many thanks to John for purchasing a PML pan and providing us with these pictures.

Volume: 3 qts. over stock Dimensions:Click here for dimensions. Number of Bolts: 18 This heavy duty, extra capacity Ranger and Explorer Ford transmission pan fits 2WD and 4WD vehicles with the 4R55E, 5R55E, 4R44E, 5R44E, and A4LD transmissions. These 4 and 5 speed transmissions are found in primarily in 1985 to 2001 Ford Rangers and Explorers but can also be in several models and years:
Some vehicles with a 4R55E, 5R55E, 4R44E, or A4LD transmission may have interference in the way of a deeper pan. Interference can be from many things, such as a cross member or the exhaust system. Please check your vehicle for clearance before ordering. Please check your vehicle to be sure there is enough room to allow our pan to clear your exhaust system. Some customers with the 4.0 V6 have had contact with the catalytic converters or resonators that are located along side or in front of the transmission pan. The A4LD transmission is a C3 transmission with overdrive. Filter InfoPML's Ford transmission pan is designed to work with the stock 4WD filter. On a 2WD vehicle, you must use the 4WD filter because of the pick up tube. These images show from left to right: the 2wd filter, the 4wd filter, both filters, side view of both filters.
